Who says there is no such thing as a job for life? This month we’ve been celebrating with Ann Sheppard who joined Hedon Insurance as a YTS Trainee in 1981.
Ann is happy in her work and says this is because every day is different. She loves working with people, has a great team and wonderful customers.

When Ann was searching for jobs, fresh out of school in 1981, the market was tough, jobs were plentiful but as quickly as they were advertised, they’d be snapped up.

Whilst still at school, Ann worked at a hairdressers on a Saturday to earn some pocket money. She loved her work; washing hair, chatting to customers and keeping the place tidy. However, she had no desire to become a hairdresser full time and after applying for literally hundreds of jobs and only getting two interviews, the job at Hedon Insurance stood out and Ann was delighted when the owners of Hedon Insurance offered her a trainee position.

Born and raised in Hedon, our namesake office was ideally located and Ann has been walking through our door ever since!

She explains: “I can hardly believe it’s been 40 years! It’s been wonderful for me to work here. The company has grown and changed so much in that time, with additional offices in Hornsea, Hull and Cottingham. I feel privileged to be part of the success.

“I know a job for life isn’t very common nowadays but I have never had the urge to leave Hedon Insurance, I get job satisfaction, enjoy the work and love the team I work with.”

Anne Walters, Director of Hedon Insurance says:

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Ann for sticking with us for the last 4 decades. Hedon Insurance has grown significantly in the time Ann has been with us and we are proud to have become a leading insurance broker in the East Riding.

“Ann is a very popular with our staff and customers. She has been here longer than all of us, long may it continue.”
