Insurance Premiums for Motorists Take a Dip
As we wrap up 2024, there's a welcome gift for motorists across the UK - car insurance premiums are on a downward slope! After a two-year uphill climb, prices have been falling for three consecutive quarters, giving drivers a reason to celebrate this winter season.

The latest figures show that comprehensive car insurance premiums dropped by 2% (£21) between July and September, with UK motorists now paying an average of £861. This follows even more substantial drops earlier in the year, with a 5% decrease in the first quarter and a 6% fall in the second.

What's behind this yuletide cheer? Insurers have been feeling generous, thanks to a combination of factors:

Reduced speed limits in some areas
Maturation of hybrid working arrangements
Consumers opting for slightly higher excesses to lower their costs

However, it's not all sugar plums and candy canes. While prices are down compared to earlier this year, they're still 9% higher than the same period last year. And some drivers, are still facing premiums that would make even Santa's wallet feel light, with average prices at £1,357.

Stay safe on those frosty roads, and here's to a new year of continued insurance savings!
